About Rodney Holt - Abstract Painter
Rodney Holt is a contemporary abstract painter based in Lytham, on England’s North West coastline. Initially he followed a career path as an engineer, driven by a passion for technical drawing in his school years. It wasn’t until his mid-30’s around 2010, that Holt actively pursued painting and became deeply immersed in it.
Circles frequently appear in Holt’s earlier body of work, symbolising his DNA as an artist through representations and abstractions with a style characterised by simplicity. His 2024 paintings, as well as some of his collage and ink works, primarily utilised a palette of black, white, and red.
His latest embraces a more subdued palette of intertwining curves creating a sense of flow and harmony inspired by music with no more than 5 or 6 complimentary colours collaborating to produce a visually smooth and cohesive composition. The circles are again present, balancing within the work, as if cradled by the curves with the circle representative being that of the artist placed within the harmonic state that creativity can bring to a persons life.
Holt's artistic journey has been marked by a quest to understand himself, his place in the world, and to develop a unique painting language.
